While Dior was dressing wealthy women after WWII, a little (she was barely 5 ft!) lady named Marie-Louise Carven was employing everyday fabrics and simple, yet sophisticated designs to dress the day-to-day Frenchwoman who demanded quality and style but at a less-than-couture price. This A-line thickly-woven skirt is the perfect example of the quality of material coupled with smart tailoring that Carven is famous for. It is hard to believe this number is over thirty years old, she looks just as modern and ready-to-wear now as she did on the Champs Élysées in years gone by.
